Eve Ensler (V-day) invites to stand up against violence towards women #1BillionRising

When: Tuesday 29 January 2013 @ 9.30Where: European Parliament Brussels, Altiero Spinelli building (ASP) Room 5C2Who: Eve Ensler, Green MEP Isabelle Durant, MEP Sirpa PietiekainenTwo weeks away from the global day of action One Billion Rising, nine Members of the European Parliament including Green MEPs Franziska Brantner and Ulrike Lunacek, who performed “The Vagina Monologues,” at the European Parliament last year will be joined in Brussels by Eve Ensler, playwright and founder/artistic director of V-Day, at a press conference hosted by Green MEP Isabelle Durant, Vice President of the European Parliament. The MEPs will take stock of political progress made since their call to action in March 2012 and call for an end to violence against women and girls in Europe and around the world. The MEPs will call on decision makers and the general public to join them in the “ONE BILLION RISING” campaign and to STRIKE, DANCE and RISE on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2013, and to demand an end to violence against women and girls. They will share their plans for 14 February, and how they will be part of this show of women’s collective strength, numbers, and solidarity across borders.At 12.30 on the same day there will be a preview of the ONE BILLION RISING dance by MEPs at the Espace Simone Veil (the « Esplanade » between the European Parliament and Place Luxembourg) which many more MEPs and European Commission officials will be joining.
